Fast track to research

The Fast Track to Research project aims to better integrate Grenfell's extensive research expertise with the research needs of the larger community, by helping to introduce a key element: facilitation.

The Fast Track to Research Project, funded by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and the Department of Tourism, Culture, Industry, and Innovation (TCII), seeks to connect on-campus researchers with off-campus small businesses, industry, and other community partners in western Newfoundland.

To support that goal, in April 2019 the Grenfell Offices of Engagement and Research/Graduate Studies hosted a Fast Track to Research Connection event. Stakeholders in the community connected with our faculty and researchers to discover ways we can work together to create collaborative opportunities.

"This event showcased some of the tremendous potential that we have for collaboration," said Ken Carter, director, Research and Engagement. "It allowed Grenfell faculty to meet potential partners, and to get to know about each other's expertise and needs."

Following a brief overview, participants were invited to share their successes, challenges and goals through a one-on-one networking exercise. The event concluded with a social and informal conversation.

Since then, the Grenfell Office of Engagement has completed the first phase of the project - a database of information and research opportunities from approximately 40 on-campus researchers and 40 off-campus community organizations, businesses and industry representatives.

The second phase of the project will connect researchers with organizations for potential collaborations.
